Loratype

Loratype is an experimental long-range communication system for offline message exchange. The project explores how autonomous devices, radio networks, and physical interfaces can create alternative channels for digital communication beyond the internet.

Overview

Project Context

Loratype was developed as a research platform for experimental communication workflows. Instead of relying on standard network infrastructure, the system uses long-range radio to transmit short messages between distributed nodes.

The project combines embedded electronics, enclosure design, firmware, and physical interface development into one coherent object. Its goal is to make communication feel tangible, local, and deliberately constrained.

What It Explores
  • Offline and decentralized message exchange.
  • Long-range low-power radio communication.
  • Hardware-driven interaction design.
  • Open engineering as a public research process.
